The European Commission launched a public consultation on the ex-post evaluation of Regulation (EC) No. 166 concerning the establishment of a European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR).
The E-PRTR is a website which provides easily accessible key environmental data from industrial facilities. It contributes to transparency and public participation in environmental decision-making and provides information used for policy assessment and development. It implements for the European Union the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) PRTR Protocol to the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters.
The objective of the public consultation is to gather information on the implementation of the E-PRTR and to evaluate past and current performance of the E-PRTR and in so doing to identify what is working well, and what is not and why. This may lead to new policy objectives, which would be determined after completion of the evaluation.
The Commission welcomes contributions from citizens, organisations and public authorities.
Received contributions will be published on the Internet.
