WasteForce ‘Watch the Waste’ Final Conference Message: Keep the Momentum

Illegal activities with waste take many forms. The WasteForce Project aims to tackle this by boosting the capacities of environmental enforcement authorities in their efforts to disrupt the illegal waste trade. Under the WasteForce project, an extensive range of tools and resources have been specifically designed to make it easier for policy-makers, regulators, inspectors, investigators and prosecutors to counter waste crime.

WINE Water Circularity Index presentation,10th of May

Anabela Rebelo, project manager of WINE will present, this 10th May, the results of IMPEL project Wastewater in Natural Environment (former Integrated Water Approach & Urban Reuse) during the forthcoming meeting of IS Ad-Hoc Task Group on Water Reuse, promoted by the Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission and hosted by the Portuguese Presidency. During this meeting the Water Circularity Index developed under this IMPEL project, i.e., a tool that allows to measure the transition of installations to a more circular model in terms of water use and in line with the environmental compliance, will be presented.

Joint webinar: Introduction to Waste Inspections at Ports

Last WasteForce training: TFS Road Inspections 27-29 April 2021

The fourth and last training under the umbrella of the WasteForce project, will dive into the topic of road checks of trans-frontier shipments of waste. The German Police Academy DHPol together with UNITAR are organising this online training event as part of the WasteForce consortium. Participation is free for those who will be selected to take part.

Successful training on Asia – Europe Cooperation Against Waste Crime

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as part of the WasteForce project, in partnership with the United Nations University (UNU) SCYCLE program and with support from WasteForce partners, INTERPOL, held a 3 day on-line training workshop on 24-26 February 2021 on the prosecution of waste crime.

Groundwater is and remains a valuable resource for the environment and different human activities. Environmental and anthropogenic pressures on this resource include amongst others: climate change (drought, flooding, etc.), (over)abstraction and pollution (point source and diffuse). Water re-use, water buffering and infiltration are some of the possible measures to diminish our requirement for fresh groundwater as well as replenish its storage. Nonetheless groundwater drilling and abstraction will remain necessary for different purposes. Groundwater shortage is no longer an exclusive problem for arid or Mediterranean countries. Recent prolonged drought periods have repeatedly made clear that groundwater supplies have to be carefully managed (abstraction as well as recharge) in all member states.

EU Green Week 1-4th of June 2021
