This project explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into waste management systems to address longstanding inefficiencies, environmental challenges, and risks of criminal exploitation.

This project explores the European Union’s approach to organic waste management within the framework of the circular economy. he project will examine both established and emerging technologies—such as anaerobic digestion, composting, biomethane production, phosphorus recovery, and pyrolysis—and assess their role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting a low-carbon, circular economy.

The End-of-Waste for Textiles Project aims to support the EU’s transition to a circular textile economy by clarifying end-of-waste criteria and improving the management of textile waste across Member States. It focuses on developing guidance, promoting consistent enforcement, and identifying technologies to ensure textiles are properly assessed, reused, or recycled in line with EU legislation.

This sub-project of the WMCE Umbrella Project focuses on supporting authorities in preparing for the regulation’s implementation by promoting a common permitting and inspection approach, increasing awareness of new recycling technologies, and encouraging cooperation between enforcement bodies to prevent illegal plastic waste flows and ensure compliance with EU product and waste legislation.

The aim of the project is to prepeare a guidance for environmental authorities in regulating in navigating the complex issues surrounding the concepts of discard, reuse, and extended use within the context of the circular economy.

This project marks the next phase of the Waste Management & Circular Economy (WMCE) Umbrella Project – Phase I, building on its successes and continuing several of its subprojects under Phase II. The project moves through the waste hierarchy steps, in order to achieve a common understanding of the key points of the Waste Framework Directive and homogenize behaviors across Member States.

The EoW Database can help permit writers, inspectors and operators to find information on end-of waste (case-by-case) decisions (permits, legal opinions) or end-of-waste operator self-assessments and EoW national criteria.

The aim of the project has been to examine the implementation issues related to the 37 individual BAT Conclusions for the Waste Incineration sector, providing practical tools to the regulators.

This subproject, conducted in collaboration with the IMPEL project on IED Implementation, explored how different aspects of the IED can support the transition to a more circular economy.

The aim of this subproject is to adapt the IRAM tool (previously developed within the easyTools IMPEL Project) for the risk assessment within the planning of environmental inspections at waste recycling installations, also defining a standard set of risk criteria.

This project builded on the results and products from the previous landfill projects and was moving through the waste hierarchy steps, in order to support the implementation of key EU environmental policies, including the New Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), he amended Waste Framework Directive (Directive (EU) 2018/851), and the objectives outlined in the Environmental Compliance and Governance Forum (2020–2022).

This subproject aimed to provide regulators with the tools to assess about the by-product status, the connection with products legislation and help them to build related inspections.

This project outputted a guideline includes multiple practical examples from different Member States on the application of REACH in the circular economy.
