Conference theme: “Strengthening environmental compliance: Challenges and Solutions ”

Aims

Recent research and analysis of responses from environmental regulators across Europe on the practical implementation of EU environmental law highlight a number of challenges. One key area is the weak enforcement, insufficient penalties and sanctions. By bringing together members from networks involved in various parts of the environmental compliance chain, this conference will highlight and present practical solutions and best practice from Europe and the rest of the world on these themes.

Organisers

For the first time, four EU networks are joining forces to organise a conference targeting all aspects of the environmental compliance chain. These are:

  • The Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of EU Environmental Law (IMPEL)
  • The EU Network of Prosecutors for the Environment (ENPE)
  • The EU Forum of Judges for the Environment (EUFJE)
  • Network of police officers focusing on tackling environmental crime (Envircrimenet)

Programme

The programme will include inspiring key note speakers, breakout session and discussions on the following topics:

  • Risk Based Approaches & Using EPA resources wisely
  • Investigations & burden of proof
  • Sanctions & Cost Recovery
  • Management challenges
