On the 3rd of May, the IMPEL Board was invited by the Greek IMPEL National Network for an engagement meeting. The IMPEL Board and about 40 experts from different authorities from the Greek Ministry of Environment and other partner agencies, on areas such as industry, water, nature conservation, waste, permitting and inspecting, as well as environmental liability, participated in the meeting.
After a presentation by IMPEL about the network, it’s way of working, expert areas and important developments and challenges, the Greek authorities presented their on-going work and key challenges on the implementation of environmental legislation. The presentations were followed by discussions on how IMPEL can support the Greek authorities to overcome them, as well as how the IMPEL network can benefit from the involvement of Greek experts in IMPEL.
Chris Dijkens, IMPEL Chair, said, “Many countries in Europe face the same challenges as the Greek authorities on the implementation of environmental legislation. The diversity of approaches, methodologies and good practices as used within Europe give important opportunities to learn from and to tackle the challenges. IMPEL, as your network, aims to support you with what the network has to offer, but also to learn from you! That is why the work and involvement of the Greek IMPEL National Network in IMPEL is so highly valued. It further strengthens IMPEL expertise where IMPEL’s members can benefit from.”
