During their meeting in Zagreb, Croatia, on 11 and 12 November 2019, the IMPEL Nature Protection Expert Team decided to boost its activities for 2020. The current projects will be continued and others will be started up.
The Expert Team will continue to contribute to the 4th priority in the 7th Environmental Action Programme in order to maximise the benefits of the EU’s environment and nature legislation by improving implementation. The Expert Team also plans to contribute actively to the EU action plan against Wildlife Trafficking and the Environmental Compliance Assurance Initiative.
The Expert Team will focus on quality and quantity of inspections, effectiveness in the chain of inspection – prosecution, verdict, sharing of intelligence and information, promoting cooperation with networks of practitioners, collaboration with NGOs and public participation. In doing so, the aim is that all Member States are represented in the Expert Team as well as the relevant NGO’s by their umbrella organization and that a strong collaboration with the chain of inspection (prosecutors and judges) is established.
The Expert Team is going to:
- Facilitate knowledge sharing by exchanging good experiences and practices and by executing peer reviews: green IRI’s
- Organise joint inspections for the transboundary collaboration in investigating crime cases
- Build up and extend a European network of experts in the nature conservation area.
