The Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) is about minimising pollution from various industrial sources throughout the European Union. The IED is based on several principles, namely an integrated approach to avoid pollution, application of best available techniques to reduce emissions, soil protection, enforcement supported by inspections and public participation. It is in the interest of the European Union to foster the implementation of the IED by creating a level playing field.
For many years IMPEL has been working on the topic of the IED – previously the IPPC Directive – in the form of projects, training and the development of tools.
Recently two of these projects, ‘Supporting the implementation of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED)’ and ‘IED Derogations’, published so-called ‘abstracts’ in various EU languages to inform a broader audience about their work. These project abstract provide a brief overview of the projects, their background, aims and key points.
