26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow

The UK hosted the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31st of October to 12th of November 2021. The COP26 summit brought parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

On 10th of November, the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change organised a side event on ‘Future Effects of Climate Change Policy on Environmental Inspections in Turkey’.

Simon Bingham from the Scottish Environmental Agency (SEPA) and UK National IMPEL Coordinator  gave a presentation on ‘Changing the Rules of Engagement’.

‘Environmental Regulators have a clear role to play to protect the planet, support local communities and enable a transition to a green economy. We need to adapt now!’

Mr. Bingham also gave information about the IMPEL Climate Umbrella Project which started in 2021 and working in this area to support regulators in their transition.

The side event continued with presentations from Prof. Erdem Gorgun from Istanbul Technical University and Pinar Ece Karac from Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change.

Prof. Gorgun presented the project on Strengthening Environmental Inspection Capacity in Marmara Sea Basin – Turkey.

Ms. Karac gave information about the new developments in Turkey and presented the inspection activities in relation with climate change effects.
