Regulating Covid-19 waste is affecting much of Europe. The LIFE SMART-WASTE project has issued updates around their capacity building and the response to Covid-19 from the waste sector regulators in Wales (UK). Through their digital brochure they have published a summary LIFE SMART Waste’s conclusions and recommendations arising from the project’s capacity-building initiatives to help regulators and law enforcement agencies to tackle waste crime.
The brochure outlines the innovative predictive analysis, detection and collaboration tools and techniques designed and piloted by the project with the support of representatives from regulators, law enforcement, industry and a range of technical specialisms. It also provide overviews of intelligence gathering activities and cross-agency interventions to target high priority areas of vulnerability within the waste management supply chain.
Drawing insights from these varied activities, the brochure concludes with a summary of tactical opportunities identified for environmental regulators and the project’s recommendations for policy and legislative change at regional, UK and EU level.
