The Safeguarding the Water Environment Throughout Europe (SWETE) project is now into its fourth year. Following discussion between the project team, it has been agreed that the topics of focus will be on the following:
- Wastewater discharge regulation
- Agricultural impacts on the water environment
- Soil management and protection
The project is now seeking candidates who wish to support the work on soil management and protection. This is an emerging area of interest for IMPEL members, as shown in the findings of the 2017 Implementation Challenges report. The European Commission are also interested in this topic. The aim of the project will be to build up an IMPEL position on the application and enforcement of environmental law in the agricultural sector.
The project will look at the effects of soil management on water quality and the positive and negative impacts on water body quality status. A final report will be produced, which will set out best practice examples, and help to build a community of practitioners in this area.
