Ship recycling yards approved by the EU enough capacity to handle demand from EU-flagged ships

Seatrade Convicted for Beaching Ships

The Rotterdam District Court in the Netherlands sentenced Groningen-based owner Seatrade for illegal exports of vessels sent for scrapping on beaches of South Asia as the company’s move breached the EU Waste Shipment Regulation. Ship recycling license suggested to ensure sound recycling for EU flagged ships

The Commission launched a study report which assesses financial instruments to facilitate safe and sound ship recycling. Regulation (EU) No 1257/2013, also referred to as the Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR), entered into force on 30 December 2013. To address concerns over its efficacy, as the Regulation only requires sound recycling for EU flagged ships, a criterion that can easily be circumvented… [Read more]
