The third webinar of the series of capacity building initiatives under the WasteForce project, presented by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), will take place on 22 April 2020 at 11:30pm CET time.
The different types of damage (e.g. health risks, environmental damage, contamination of agricultural goods and economic damage) resulting from illegal trade, disposition and handling of waste will be discussed. Basis for this webinar is the recently published report on measuring environmental damage of illegal shipments of waste.
After a brief overview of the Netherlands Forensic Institute, a representative from NFI will brief participants on the findings from the latest proposed manual to estimate environmental damage and health related risks. Outcomes from actual case studies on how to generate environmental footprint of illegal waste transports will be analysed as well.
Representatives from the enforcement sector, academia, researchers and policy makers are invited to attend the online lectures and participate in the Q&A session envisaged at the end of the webinar. For registration please click here.
The webinar is organised under WasteForce, a two year project funded by the EU Internal Security Fund – Police, and aimed at boosting operational capacities of authorities involved in the fight against illicit waste trade and management. WasteForce is the project acronym for Deterring and disrupting illegal trade and management of Waste by developing Tools for Enforcement, Forensics and Capacity Building. The project is coordinated by IMPEL.
