IMPEL Wastewater in Natural Environment (WiNE) Project Team made a site visit in Murcia, Spain

30 Mar, 2023

On 23 March 2023, under the IMPEL Project Wastewater in Natural Environment (WiNE), the project team went to the region of Murcia, Spain, to visit wastewater treatment plants/reclamation plants that produce water for crops irrigation. The main goal of the visit was to understand and identify best practices on water reuse and how in an area with high scarcity, the extensive fresh vegetables production is possible due to reclaimed waters.

A project team of ten participants from eight countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Finland, Romania, Belgium, Slovakia and Netherlands) visited the treatment plants of Los Alcazares and San Pedro del Pinatar managed by ESAMUR (Sanitation and Treatment Entity of the Region of Murcia). On second day, a meeting has been organised to discuss the application of the findings of the visits. Click here to see the video from the visit.

The project aims to identify the best solutions in facilities, activities and final products to promote “reuse/circular markets” and improve a better water use efficiency, considering both quantity and quality.
