IMPEL Nature Protection Expert Team Meeting was held on 20 April 2023

IMPEL Nature Protection Expert Team Meeting took place on 20 April 2023 in Rome. Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) hosted the event. 30 representatives from 18 countries attended the meeting on site and many more joined online. 

Focus of this event was to provide an update on IMPEL Projects that are running in 2022-2024 under the Nature Protection Expert Team and the new projects that are planned to start in the second half of 2023. The experts also started their discussion on new project ideas for 2025-2027. 

Projects under IMPEL Nature Protection Expert Team have also organised back-to-back events with this meeting. 

On 19 April 2023, IMPEL Testing and Improving the Planning Tool for Inspections of Natura 2000 Sites (NIRAM) and Roadmap for a series of projects on invasive alien species (IAS) Project held a project team meeting to discuss future activities of the project. They will be organising a joint inspection in June in Spain.

IMPEL EU Action Plan Against Wildlife Trafficking project team held a workshop on 21 April 2023. The project team discussed the results of the previous joint inspections and planned the future ones.

On 19 and 21 April 2023, IMPEL Implementation of the Bird and Habitat Directives at European Aerodromes project team made aerodrome visits to Fiumicino Rome Airport and Practica di Mare Air Base in Italy. The Project team will continue their activities with more aerodrome visits in 2023 and 2024.

On 21 April 2023, IMPEL Tackling Illegal Activities Connected to Hunting Tourism project team held a project team meeting to discuss and plan project activities. 

Next Expert Team Meeting and back-to-back project team meetings will be held in November 2023 as face-to-face meetings.
